How Putin began “rescuing” the Black Sea from fuel oil spill
Russian dictator Vladimir Putin continues his “resolute fight” against the environmental disaster in the Black Sea following the fuel oil tanker crash in the Kerch Strait. Two months after the incident, he finally announced that the sunken tankers should be raised from the seabed.
▫️ Russian propaganda is portraying this statement as if Putin had come up with a “groundbreaking idea” that the hundreds of officials involved in the cleanup had somehow overlooked—only adding to the absurdity of the situation.
▫️ With these statements, Putin is trying to create the illusion of control. In reality, the occupiers’ delayed and ineffective response has allowed the disaster to escalate dramatically.
Russia’s reckless handling of the fuel oil spill negates the propaganda about “caring” for the occupied territories. For the Kremlin, the Black Sea and occupied Crimea are nothing more than resources to be exploited for military and political gain.
