Why Russia is restoring Soviet museums in the TOT

In Mariupol, the occupiers opened a museum of Andriy Zhdanov, a native of the city, one of the leading ideologues of the Stalinist era and initiator of mass repressions.

After Ukraine regained its independence, Zhdanov’s museum in Mariupol was liquidated. Now, instead of rebuilding the city it destroyed, Russia is reviving the symbols of Stalinism.

The purpose of such actions of the Russians is to mentally detach people in the occupied territories from Ukraine, as well as to spread the myth of the allegedly “native Russian” Mariupol.
