Energy crisis in Crimea is the result of the occupiers’ negligence
The occupation authorities have been unable to solve the problem of power outages in Sevastopol and Cape Fiolent for two weeks. The occupation authorities say that the blackouts are a “chronic winter problem” and only demonstrate that they are demanding a solution, while people are left without electricity and heating for hours every day during the freezing temperatures.
The main reason behind the prolonged blackouts is the critical deterioration of the infrastructure. Russia has been promising “energy independence” to the residents of occupied Crimea for more than 10 years, but Crimeans still remain hostage to power grid failures. Russia has failed to modernize the energy supply system in Crimea.
The power outages on Cape Fiolent and in Sevastopol once again demonstrate Russia’s true attitude towards the residents of Crimea. The Kremlin is using Crimea for its political and military interests, without concern for the fate of the local population. Despite the propaganda fables about “prosperity with Russia,” living conditions on the peninsula are only getting worse.
