Why occupiers create pseudo-Cossack groups in Kherson region
The occupiers claim to have organized “Cossacks registry” in the temporarily occupied territories of Kherson region.
▫️ According to them, a working group has been set up under the occupation “governor” to register 8 “Cossack groups,” appoint “atamans,” and create “Cossacks registry.” This is being presented as a “cultural and historical revival.”
In reality, the “Cossacks” created by the occupiers have no connection to the Ukrainian Cossacks and are part of a broader effort to erase the historical memory of Ukrainians. The true goal of these “Cossack organizations” is to distort history, promote hatred of Ukraine, militarize residents in the occupied territories, and prepare young people for mobilization into the Russian army for future wars.
