How Russian Foreign Ministry “protects Russians’ rights” everywhere except in Russia
At the end of 2024, the Russian Foreign Ministry released a detailed report on “violations of the rights of Russian citizens and compatriots in foreign countries.” The document includes data from over 40 “unfriendly to Russia” nations, including Ukraine.
The report claims a “surge of Russophobia” following Russia’s full-scale invasion of Ukraine. Among the “oppressions” listed are bans on displaying Russian and Soviet flags in public, the “abolition” of Russian culture, blocking propaganda media outlets, sanctions, and similar measures.
The report creates the impression that the Russian Foreign Ministry is concerned only with the rights of Russians abroad. The alleged “Russophobia” described in the document pales in comparison to the human rights violations that ordinary Russians face daily within their own country.
