How Russia is trying to hide the consequences of drone attacks on refineries
A Russian court has, for the first time, ordered Yandex to restrict access to maps and photos of one of its refineries following drone attacks, citing that such exposure “undermines Russia’s defense capability.” This highlights once again that the impact of these attacks is far more severe than Russian propaganda is willing to admit.
Since the beginning of the full-scale invasion of Ukraine by Russian forces, Russian oil refineries have suffered dozens of drone attacks, resulting in a decline of over 10% in fuel production within Russia. Additionally, Russia has been forced to suspend gasoline exports.
The Centre previously reported that drone attacks on refineries were one of the key factors behind the record increase in gasoline prices in Russia over the past 13 years.
