How Kremlin is using DPRK soldiers in Kursk region
Russia is actively deploying North Korean military personnel at the front but is trying to conceal their involvement. Reports already indicate significant casualties among them.
▪️ According to Andriy Kovalenko, head of the Center for Countering Disinformation (CCD) and an officer in the Ukrainian Defense Forces, Russia has mobilized part of the more than 12,000 North Korean soldiers previously brought to Russia.
▪️ “They are operating in areas north, west, and east of the town of Sudzha in the Kursk region. Deployed as infantry without equipment, they are unprepared to counter drones and are suffering heavy losses. It seems that the Russians did not adequately inform the Koreans about UAV warfare, highlighting that, for Russia, North Korean lives hold no value,” Kovalenko said.
▪️ He added that the Russian command is attempting to compensate for personnel shortages with North Koreans to preserve Russian manpower.
▪️ According to Kovalenko, Russia is hastily transporting the bodies of dead DPRK soldiers to prevent Ukraine from obtaining evidence, either through captured North Korean soldiers or bodies, and to hide their participation in the conflict.
“According to Ukraine’s Defense Intelligence, at least 30 DPRK soldiers have been confirmed killed, but this figure is based on verified bodies. Once further identification is completed, the number will rise,” said Andriy Kovalenko.
