The state duma of the russian federation is set to pass a law in the near future that will allow debt relief for russians who sign a contract to participate in the so-called “smo.”
The bill, which was passed in the first reading on October 29, provides for the possibility of writing off up to 10 million rubles of debt for those citizens or their relatives who sign a contract with the russian defense ministry after December 1 this year.
The condition for debt relief is the existence of a court decision on debt collection or the initiation of enforcement proceedings.
Thus, the kremlin leaves no choice for russians whose families have fallen into debt bondage. Either they lose all their property to pay off debts, or they are forced to go to war against Ukraine. This effectively introduces “debt mobilization” in russia.
According to the official data from the federal bailiff service of the russian federation, more than 10 million enforcement proceedings for debt collection have been opened in the country this year alone. With these individuals, the russian authorities aim to compensate for the heavy human losses the russian army is suffering in Ukraine.
This initiative once again proves that ru-propaganda’s claims of “minimal losses” are false. Entering the third year of the war, the kremlin faces major challenges in replenishing its army and is increasingly resorting to covert mobilization tactics.
