How Crimea’s Occupation Leader Tries to Convince Everyone the Situation on the Peninsula is “Under Control”
The leader of the occupation authorities of Crimea, sergei aksyonov, claims that the situation on the peninsula is “under control,” but the reality shows the opposite.
Specifically, he stated the following:
▪️ “the holiday season will fully start after the ‘smo’, but the tourist business is operating”;
▪️ “there are no interethnic contradictions in Crimea”;
▪️ “russian military and security forces keep the security situation under control”.
In reality, the tourism industry in Crimea is in decline. Logistical difficulties make it extremely hard to reach, and many beaches have been converted into military sites.
Claims of no interethnic tensions are false. Human rights activists report new cases of harassment against Muslim communities and political persecution.
Over the 10 years of occupation, the russians, while claiming a “course to improve the quality of life,” have militarized Crimea, making it dangerous for tourists and the local population. With his statements, the gauleiter is trying to demonstrate his loyalty to the kremlin and secure new subsidies from moscow.
