Putin’s goal is obvious: he seeks to redraw the map of Europe. The defeated blitzkrieg in Ukraine and the slowdown of offensive initiatives in the East and South of the country caused another propaganda information wave of nuclear blackmail.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Russia creates such an information field not only in the West, but also among its own population.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Since 1999, tactical nuclear weapons in russia’s military strategy have played the role of so-called “de-escalation” weapons. The russian doctrine of “de-escalation” through nuclear escalation has long been present in the kremlin’s official rhetoric. Such a doctrine is a key element of russia’s hybrid war against the world, since even voicing threats to use russian nuclear weapons pushes some country leaders to capitulate.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
In January 2000, russia published a new National Security Concept, which regulated the use of nuclear weapons not only in response to threats from russia, but also the right to use nuclear weapons to repel armed aggression and in local wars on the borders with russia. Since then, Western reminders about russia’s ability to destroy major cities and industrial centers have become systematic.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
After that, the navy’s general staff said that the future belongs to tactical nuclear weapons on long-range cruise missiles from submarines. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
In 2011, the chief of the general staff of the russian armed forces, m.makarov, did not rule out the possibility that “local and regional armed conflicts could escalate into a global war with the use of nuclear weapons.” And in March 2014, during the occupation and annexation of Crimea, the kremlin openly warned of a nuclear attack in case of an attempted intervention by Western military forces.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
On the day of the so-called referendum on the annexation of Crimea, propagandist d.kiselyov stated that “russia is the only country in the world capable of turning the United States into radioactive ash.” And in August 2014, putin announced his intention to “please” the West with new developments in offensive nuclear weapons in the near future and reminded that “russia is actually one of the largest nuclear powers.” <\/p>\n\n\n\n
Public threats of russia’s use of nuclear weapons were aimed not only at provoking the Western alliance to respond militarily, but also served as a rehearsal for creating a pretext for further military aggression by russia against other countries.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
In March 2018, v.putin, during his address to the federal assembly, flaunted the creation of a super-powerful Sarmat nuclear missile, Kinzhal hypersonic missiles, cruise missiles with nuclear engines, and a nuclear submarine. Much of his speech was devoted to intimidation by russia’s nuclear power. He emphasized that russian military doctrine provides for the use of any mass destruction weapon in the event of aggression against russia, even with the use of conventional weapons, if the existence of the russian state is threatened. Any use of nuclear weapons against russia of any capacity will be perceived as a nuclear attack on russia with the corresponding consequences.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Meanwhile, foreign minister s.lavrov claimed in early March that he did not believe in the possibility of a nuclear war, but in late April he stated that “the risks of a nuclear war are now quite significant. And although understanding the consequences of a hypothetical nuclear strike by russia is a deterrent, the threshold for russia to use nuclear weapons is still quite low.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
By demonstrating such a strategy to the world, russia is promoting the ideas of the so-called reflexive control strategy \u2013 to influence the enemy so that it does not interfere with the achievement of its goals.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
NATO countries refuse to participate directly in the war on the side of Ukraine, but at the same time, foreign military assistance to Ukraine is increasing, despite russia’s threats of nuclear escalation.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
