On September 7, the Deputy Head of the Center for Countering Disinformation, Alina Alieksieieva, spoke at the \u201c25 Years of IFAP\u201d conference. The event brought together representatives of UNESCO, government authorities, the media regulator, academia, media outlets, civil society organizations, and international expert networks.<\/p>\n
Participants discussed, in particular, disinformation as a threat to freedom of expression and information security; the search for a balance between freedom of expression and national security; the opportunities and risks associated with the use of digital technologies; the ethical challenges posed by new technologies; and Ukraine\u2019s information resilience amid a prolonged war.<\/p>\n
A. Alieksieieva took part in discussions on freedom of expression amid real and cognitive warfare, as well as media and information literacy in the age of artificial intelligence. According to her, media literacy is an important tool in countering disinformation, helping people identify manipulation and make informed decisions. The ability to critically assess information is therefore not only a component of democratic development but also of national security.<\/p>\n
The Deputy Head of the CCD noted that AI is changing not only how we receive information but also how influence is created and disseminated. \u201cTherefore, the issue of information resilience today is no longer about individual specialists \u2014 it concerns each and every one of us,\u201d she said.<\/p>\n
The event was held under the patronage of UNESCO and the Ukrainian National Commission for UNESCO, with the support of the JEMILE project. It was organized by the National Committee of UNESCO\u2019s Information for All Programme (IFAP), together with the Mohyla School of Journalism at NaUKMA and StopFake.<\/p>\n
