\u25ab\ufe0f Families of Peruvians who went missing after joining the russian armed forces are calling on their government and russian diplomats to investigate fraudulent recruitment schemes. Many mercenaries were promised jobs away from the frontline, but were instead sent to storm Ukrainian positions. According to the relatives themselves, around 500 Peruvians are missing while serving in the russian army.<\/p>\n
Peru is not the only Global South country protesting against russia\u2019s recruitment efforts. The foreign ministries of African countries including Ghana, South Africa, Kenya and Botswana have officially called on russia to stop recruiting their citizens to participate in the war against Ukraine. According to international media, by the end of 2025, russia had recruited around 18,000 citizens from 128 countries across Africa, Asia and Latin America to participate in the war. At least 3,300 of them were killed.<\/p>\n
russia\u2019s fraudulent schemes to recruit mercenaries from Global South countries are intended to compensate for the russian army\u2019s enormous losses on the battlefield. However, it is becoming increasingly difficult for russia to conceal this.
