Over 1,500 videos and websites created by the russian disinformation network Storm-1516, which is run by the russian military intelligence (gru), were analyzed. 40% of the content is aimed at systematically discrediting Ukraine and President Volodymyr Zelenskyy. Fake stories about the Head of State, discrediting Ukrainian refugees and the military regularly appear. The goal of these fakes is to undermine support for Ukraine and partnerships. The total reach of the materials is over 66 million users worldwide.<\/p>\n
More than a third of the efforts were also aimed at interfering in the elections. In particular, 12 fake narratives about the elections in Hungary, 14 fake materials about the elections in Moldova, 4 discrediting materials in France, as well as more than 100 websites and materials about the elections in Germany were recorded. 25 fake materials have also been identified to interfere in the upcoming elections in Armenia. The total reach has reached more than 150 million users.<\/p>\n
russian propaganda is trying to use social media algorithms to its advantage. The campaign uses fake \u201cwhistleblowers\u201d \u200b\u200band \u201cinvestigative journalists\u201d along with fake documents, AI videos and deepfakes, and manipulative processing of video and audio. 170 cases of fakes on behalf of real news outlets were also recorded. For greater coverage, the content is adapted in at least 16 languages \u200b\u200band distributed by anonymous botnet accounts.<\/p>\n
