A screenshot of an article is being spread on Polish social media, in which it is claimed that “Ukrainian Prime Minister Denys Shmyhal announced his readiness to sell coal from the Polish mine ‘Bogdanka’ to Poland”.<\/p>\n
The authors claim that Poland is giving away its own coal for free, and then being forced to buy it back.<\/p>\n
In fact, this is a manipulation of an old article from the Do Rzeczy publication from September 2022. The fake news creators edited the page code, changing the original headline. In the real statement by Denys Shmyhal, it was about providing Poland with 100,000 tons of Ukrainian coal, not reselling Polish coal. Instead, the ‘Bogdanka’ mine is currently planning to increase its coal sales to Ukraine.<\/p>\n
Moreover, Denys Shmyhal is no longer the Prime Minister of Ukraine, which also indicates the fake nature of the news.<\/p>\n
The purpose of this lie is to stoke anti-Ukrainian sentiments in Poland, discredit the Ukrainian authorities, and weaken Polish-Ukrainian solidarity in favor of russian interests.<\/p>\n
