\u25ab\ufe0fputin once again repeated standard propaganda narratives: russia is allegedly peace-loving, but Europe\u2019s elites spread \u201chysteria\u201d about the russian threat; responsibility for prolonging the war in Ukraine lies with an \u201caggressive\u201d Europe; the russian army is supposedly \u201crelentlessly and confidently\u201d advancing; the West allegedly uses Ukrainians as \u201cexpendable material,\u201d and so on.<\/p>\n
\u25ab\ufe0fAt the same time, much of putin\u2019s speech consisted of threats. He threatened to strike Ukraine\u2019s nuclear power plants, to give \u201ca very convincing response to the militarization of Europe,\u201d and once again hinted at using the mythical \u201coreshnik\u201d and russia\u2019s most advanced nuclear weapons.<\/p>\n
Moreover, with his joke about \u201cnot sending drones to Denmark anymore,\u201d putin effectively admitted that it is indeed russian UAVs flying into Europe, despite moscow\u2019s official denials.<\/p>\n
The goal of putin\u2019s propaganda performance is to create the illusion of russia\u2019s invulnerability and invincibility. However, reality is very different: over three years of war have undermined russia\u2019s budget and economy, the fuel crisis shows how vulnerable russia is to strikes deep inside its territory, and advances on the frontline are possible only at the cost of enormous losses.<\/p>\n
