russia claims that this treaty is a key element in maintaining \u201cglobal stability,\u201d but in reality, it primarily serves to secure greater support from Iran in the war against Ukraine. At the same time, the russian ministry of foreign affairs rushed to declare immediately after the ratification that the treaty does not oblige moscow to provide military support to Iran in the event of a U.S. military operation against that country.<\/p>\n
\u25ab\ufe0fFor Iran, russia may be useful as a friendly intermediary in dialogue with Western states and as a partner in mitigating the impact of economic sanctions through cooperation with another sanctioned country.<\/p>\n
