The state duma has passed another package of draft laws supposedly aimed at \u201cprotecting sovereignty,\u201d but in reality, they expand the state\u2019s ability to repress any expression of disloyalty to the regime.<\/p>\n<p>The new provisions broaden the grounds for labeling individuals as \u201cforeign agents\u201d and increase the number of criminal charges that can be applied in absentia. These include \u201cspreading fake news about the russian army,\u201d \u201ccalls for extremism\u201d and \u201cviolations of russia\u2019s territorial integrity\u201d\u2014which can apply to the non-recognition of russia\u2019s occupation of Ukrainian territories\u2014as well as \u201crehabilitation of nazism,\u201d among others.<\/p>\n<p>By intensifying repression and censorship, the kremlin is attempting to eliminate any criticism of putin\u2019s regime and suppress all efforts by russian society to oppose the war of aggression against Ukraine.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>The russian authorities continue tightening the screws.
