\u2013 the negotiations in Riyadh between the delegations of Ukraine and the United States, as well as between russia and the United States;
\n\u2013 russian attacks on Ukrainian territory during the ceasefire talks.<\/p>\n
The negotiations in Saudi Arabia were the primary topic related to Ukraine across Global South media in recent days. Despite a generally positive perception of the talks, there has been a noticeable decline in optimistic expectations. In most Global South regions, the media note the opposing positions of the parties and do not predict a swift positive outcome.<\/p>\n
In some Global South countries (China, India, Latin America, Central Asia), there are cautious and inconsistent hints that it is russia\u2019s position that is obstructing progress in the talks. At the same time, media outlets in several other regions continue to amplify pro-russian narratives (notably in parts of Latin America, the Middle East, and Africa).<\/p>\n
The russian strikes on Ukrainian cities during the negotiations\u2014which killed civilians, including children\u2014sparked widespread resonance across Global South countries and were widely viewed as undermining the prospects for a successful outcome.<\/p>\n
In the absence of quick results from the negotiations, mentions of the joint \u201cfriends of peace\u201d initiative, led by China and Brazil, have intensified in China and other Global South nations, along with calls to increase the role of Global South countries in achieving a peaceful resolution.<\/p>\n

\n\u2013 peace can only be achieved if Ukraine makes significant concessions to russia;
\n\u2013 Ukraine has become a battleground where old powers are competing to retain dominance in the region;
