Two months after the incident, he finally announced that the sunken tankers should be raised from the seabed.<\/p>\n<p>\u25ab\ufe0f Russian propaganda is portraying this statement as if Putin had come up with a \u201cgroundbreaking idea\u201d that the hundreds of officials involved in the cleanup had somehow overlooked\u2014only adding to the absurdity of the situation.<\/p>\n<p>\u25ab\ufe0f With these statements, Putin is trying to create the illusion of control. In reality, the occupiers\u2019 delayed and ineffective response has allowed the disaster to escalate dramatically.<\/p>\n<p>Russia\u2019s reckless handling of the fuel oil spill negates the propaganda about \u201ccaring\u201d for the occupied territories.
