According to official statistics, the amount owed to workers in 2024 was 43.5% higher than in 2023.<\/p>\n<p>This is the first recorded increase in wage arrears since 2015, with the largest debts in the construction sector, which has been severely impacted by the Russian central bank\u2019s key rate hike, and in industry, where crisis trends are evident due to the war against Ukraine and sanctions.<\/p>\n<p>This situation is yet more evidence of serious problems in the Russian economy that Russian propaganda\u2014and Vladimir Putin himself\u2014are trying to conceal.
