Zalibek Umayev is a colonel in the Russian occupation army and the head of the engineering service of the 58th Guards Combined Arms Army.<\/p>\n
A native of Dagestan, Umayev began his military service in 1997. In 2014, his unit participated in the occupation of Crimea. Later, Ukrainian intelligence identified him as one of the Russian officers present in the Donetsk region in 2015. At that time, the Kremlin was calling it a \u201ccivil war in Donbas\u201d and denying the presence of Russian troops in Ukraine.<\/p>\n
There are reports that Umayev was involved in the theft and transportation of property from enterprises and individuals in the occupied Donetsk region to Russia. He is also suspected of organizing mine-blasting operations to destroy infrastructure and industrial facilities in the occupied Donetsk region and of mining the area.<\/p>\n
In 2023, Umayev oversaw the installation of minefields in Zaporizhzhia. He was seriously injured and awarded the \u201cHero of Russia\u201d star.
