In a fresh wave of fakes, civilians are being drawn into the creation of these narratives.

The CCD has documented another series of disinformation efforts centered around the following topics:

▫️ “The story of an Imam”: russian media published an absurd story from a representative of the Muslim community. He claimed that in a village in the kursk region, he encountered people wearing russian military uniforms who threatened to “shoot him in the knees.” Despite the russian uniform, the imam insisted that these individuals were Ukrainian soldiers.

▫️ “Polish mercenaries”: stories of “atrocities committed by Polish mercenaries” remain a favorite trope of russian propagandists concerning the events in the kursk region. Although this operation has been ongoing for three months, no credible evidence supporting the existence of these “mercenaries” has been presented. Such fabrications are part of the broader narrative aiming to falsely implicate NATO countries in the war.

▫️ “Executions of civilians”: In recent days, several videos in the format of “eyewitness accounts” have emerged, with people claiming that Ukrainian forces shot civilians in the kursk region. These stories detail incidents such as cars being shot at, crowds fired upon, and children killed. However, as usual, no evidence is provided to support these allegations.

▫️ “NATO chemical weapons”: another fabricated claim suggests that the Ukrainian military used chemical weapons in the kursk region. The supposed “evidence” for this comes from a video showing a cache of ammunition found in Donetsk.

▫️ “Blocking units”: To demoralize Ukrainian forces, the enemy is spreading lies about Ukrainian soldiers being shot by their own units when attempting to surrender. The propagandists further claim the existence of “barrier units” within Ukrainian forces. They allege that reconnaissance drones have captured such incidents, yet no footage has been released to verify these claims.

“Atrocities of Polish mercenaries” and “Ukrainians in russian uniforms”: new fakes from ru-propaganda about events in the kursk region russian propaganda continues its disinformation campaign to discredit Ukrainian forces carrying out combat missions in the kursk region.
