Lithuania to block 12 websites carrying russian propaganda
Lithuania will block 12 websites through which users could access programmes of the sanctioned russian propaganda agency Sputnik.
During monitoring, the Lithuanian Radio and Television Commission (LRTK) identified a number of resources that allowed users to bypass EU restrictions and broadcast prohibited content. The vast majority of these portals use russian hosting providers. The Commission has already ordered Lithuanian internet service providers to restrict access to these websites.
LRTK Chairman Mantas Martišius stressed that sanctions must work not only on paper, so the retransmission of prohibited content through alternative channels requires an immediate response.
Blocking mirror websites and suppressing hostile broadcasting signals are effective ways to enforce the sanctions regime. russia systematically uses media under its control as a tool of hybrid influence, which is why countering russian disinformation is a matter of national security for European countries.
