Britain announced secret russian operation in North Sea
British Defense Secretary John Healey stated that russia had conducted a covert operation in British waters that posed a direct threat to vital energy and data cables.
According to the Ministry of Defense, over the course of a month, the British Navy, together with allies, tracked a group of russian ships in the North Sea and the Atlantic. To prevent sabotage, British warships used hydroacoustic buoys to detect and deter submarines.
John Healey emphasized that Britain “sees every move” the kremlin makes and warned russian dictator vladimir putin: any attempt to damage infrastructure will have serious consequences.
This incident confirms the growing trend of hybrid threats from russia. russia’s activity in British waters may indicate attempts to find the West’s “weak link.” Submarine cables transmit vast amounts of data between countries, so protecting these facilities is critical to the security of all of Europe.
