Russia has intensified information attacks against Finland
In recent days, several russian politicians have issued threats against Finland.
▫️ On September 8, the deputy chairman of the russian security council dmitry medvedev published an article accusing Finland of “ties with nazism,” “oppression of russians,” and “preparing a NATO foothold for an attack on russia.” He also stated that “confrontation with moscow could lead to the collapse of Finnish statehood.”
▫️ On September 9, the head of the State duma defense committee andrey kartapolov repeated the same narratives, calling Finland a “hotbed of fascism” and warning of the risk of “conflict with russia” due to “Helsinki’s irresponsible policy.”
This is part of the kremlin’s long-standing tactic of intimidating Ukraine’s partners. russia threatens war, labeling them as “fascists,” “russophobes,” or “a threat to russia.” kremlin’s rhetoric is especially notable against the backdrop of Finland’s active stance in supporting Ukraine.
It is characteristic that russia used similar messages to “justify” the full-scale invasion of Ukraine.
