What the fake “primaries” in Putin’s party really are
russian propaganda outlets are covering the so-called “primaries” within the “united russia” party. The main focus is on the “record number of ‘svr’ veterans” that putin’s party will send to the elections.
▫️ This is presented as evidence of kremlin’s care for veteran reintegration, the privileged status of participants in the war against Ukraine, and high democratic standards.
In reality, this is purely a propaganda stunt aimed at creating additional incentives for russians to go to war against Ukraine.
In fact, access to the heavily promoted “time of heroes” program is limited to a very small circle of war participants loyal to the authorities. Many of them are sham veterans who participated formally and were part of the pro-government elite even before the full-scale invasion. The vast majority of participants in the war against Ukraine are merely expendable resources for kremlin.
The “primaries” themselves in russia are also a sham since real power in the russian federation belongs solely to putin’s vertical, and local elected bodies are entirely decorative.
